Apple’s former CEO John Scully had described a concept called “Knowledge Navigator” . It describes a device that can access a large networked database of hypertext information, and use software agents to assist searching for information.
The video shows the view of Apple Scientists in 1987 about how people would use computers in 2010. Though some of the concepts still look like that in a scifi movie, the User Experience of today has many elements that they anticipated : Video Chat, mashups, E-learning, Touchscreen et al.

Now that’s a Future Shock!

Literature on Google Earth

Here’s a new mashup for Google Earth called “Google Literature Trips“. Its a cool way to see all the places and take road trips mentioned in a book.

So if you’ve read Kite Runner and want to follow the path taken by Amir,download the kmz (Keyhole Markup Language) file and open it in Google Earth. There are a number of titles already and you could contribute too!

Dell XPS 1330 review

I recently bought a Dell XPS 1330 laptop.Don’t regret the decision.Even though I was all out for a Sony Vaio.

Specs are :
4 gb ram,320 gb disk,Intel GMA,Vista Home Premium,13.3″ monitor
Here are a few facts:

1.Vista works like a wonder on this m/c.Even though the spec is great,I was still apprehensive about the O/S jacking up resources.Trust me,discounting the negative publicity,you would start loving Vista if you have this m/c.
2.Dell has come up with a new(ok not that new…but worth mentioning) called Dell Media Center.Without booting your m/c, you could watch movies and images and listen to music.I love this feature,though not sure about the security aspects.Even a Sony Vaio CR has this.
3.It has a performance index of 3.6.To know more about what this score means,click here.
4.The tuxedo black color is amazing!

Scouring the searches…

Further to my previous post w.r.t competition to Goog,here comes another another search tool,rather “The Social Search Engine” : Scour.
The idea is appealing.All the top search engines aggregated on a single page and better still users can rank the results making the results supposedly better by the day. I don’t mind a social site for such purposes;-).Evenmore the fact that you can actually redeem gift cards is an added attraction.

My decision to splurge has been justified!

More than a year ago,faced with a mobile with an erratic mind of its own,I decided and bought a Sony Ericsson K750i at a premium(according to me 14,000 for a gadget you spend maximum 1 hour a day is akin to spending over 2 lakhs for your laptop!).
My choice is perfect.It is one of the widely used mobiles throughout the world wrt opera users worldwide;-).Click here to read(Opera Mobile Browsing) the report.

Opera 9.5 Released!

Now this is cool!
As someone who finds IE obnoxious and Mozilla cluttered,Opera seems to be the best and safest broswer around.
And all the minor irks in previous versions of Opera have been jettisoned in the new version 9.5 (code named Kestrel ->a super fast bird from the eagle family)…
And their timing can’t be more perfect,just days before Mozilla releases Firefox 3.
Do try it out.
It has all (& more) features you would use daily and now looks cool too!
