3.3 billion mobile phone users spent 100 billion dollars for 1.7 trillion text messages ( more than the revenues of the top 5 mobile co’s)
43 billion text messages on the eve of New Year 07-08
India stands fifth with 88 billion text messages.The top 4 are China (456 bill),US(197 bill),Japan(160 bill),Philippines(155 bill).

Whats the big ‘deal’ about Microsoft – Yahoo deal?

1. Yahoo is in talks with AOL & Google to ward off the Microsoft’s bid.More Info here.

2. Microsoft announced that Rupert Murdoc’s News Corp is willing to join hands in its bid for Yahoo.

To know more on why this deal(or no) is garnering so much attention,check this link to comScore ->A Global Internet Information provider.Here’s their press release regarding the ranking of the websites getting the most hits(unique visitors) for the month of February,2008.

According to the report, 185 million people visited a website in Feb,2008. Of these,

->Yahoo got 137 mil hits

->Google got 136 mil hits

->Microsoft got 118 mil hits

->AOL got 109 mil hits

In other words,the top 4 companies viz Yahoo,Google,Microsoft and AOL have significantly larger audience. Fox Interactive of myspace fame(owned by News Corp) occupies the 5th position(with 84 mil hits). So any merger among one or many of these companies would have incomparable advantage over the left out companies.

Personally I would hope for the Microsoft’s bid to succeed to maintain some competition,which would otherwise be dominated by Google and Yahoo.

Startup in 3 months

Indian Institute of Management,Ahmedabad has launched a new program called “iAccelerator” to serve as an incubator for startups.Its specifically aimed at the hordes of people like me toiling in the Software Industry.Its the best way of executing any of the IT/Web/Mobile related ideas. Programs like these would benefit all those bent towards entrepreneurship. Click here for more details about the program.

Alas,the teams should be self sufficient in the technical funda, which is definitely not my forte(well many may not have the competency to ‘successfully’ design,develop and market a product or a service).

1.Microsoft fell from a 11th position in 2004 to 38 in 2006 to 59 in 2007.Does it mean Vista is useless for both users and Microsoft alike?

2.Verizon Wireless,Boeing,Toshiba,Nissan,Mitsubishi are some of the top gainers.
